My study is our third bedroom located on the front of the house. In addition to three bookcases, a large wooden desk, and a leather chair/ottoman, this room holds anything that doesn't have a home anywhere else in the house. A lot of it is in a state of "holding" until I either find another home for it (hand-me-downs) or the right place for it in our home. Unfortunately, my husband isn't in favor of more furniture in the living room or bedroom so my options for "stashes", i.e. drawers, cabinets, and bookshelves are limited and already occupied.
In the summer of 2011, I decided that I was going to start saving my "paper" resources such as notes and clippings in digital form because I was just absolutely swimming in paper. I started scanning documents like a crazy woman and organizing them in folders on my laptop. Ooo, that felt and looked good! I decided that part of the reason I was keeping some of the items was to share with other people. I would find articles and books that I knew would be perfect for a friend or relative. (There's that reference librarian coming out.)
I decided that I needed a format for storing and sharing articles, notes and other artifacts with others. That is when I began my blog.
I named it "Book Ends and Illuminations" because:
- It was begun to help me organize materials and keep them together in a way I could easily retrieve them...thus, Book Ends. Physical book ends help us support books on a shelf; therefore, they help us organize and structure our collection.
- Many of the notes and materials I wanted to share were important to me because I felt that they "illuminated" my understanding of the world, of God, and of living well.
So I hope that you as a reader or, hopefully, a follower of my blog will benefit from the sharing of these materials. I hope that in my sharing-you will be challenged and encouraged in your quest for truth and in your walk in Christ.
